Ukraine hopes to increase reverse natural gas supply from Europe

Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Prodan addressed the open letter to Günther Hermann Oettinger, European Commissioner for Energy in the European Commission.

Yuriy Prodan expressed his appreciation with the readiness of European community to assist Ukraine with supplying natural gas in case if Russia will limit or block the supply or significantly increase the price of natural gas.

According to the letter, Ukraine sees reverse natural gas supply from European Union, in particular Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, as the main tool for overcoming potential supply shortage from Russian Federation.

In 2013 Ukraine imported 2.19 billion cubic meters of natural gas from EU countries.
